About Hormone Imbalance in Men & Women
Hormones coordinate different functions in the body as they carry messages to the organs, skin, muscles and other tissues through the blood. Upon receiving the messages, the body learns what to do and when. Hormones control many different bodily processes, including:
- Metabolism.
- Homeostasis (constant internal balance).
- Growth and development.
- Sexual function.
- Reproduction.
- Sleep-wake cycle.
- Mood.
As we age, the production of hormones is inevitably affected. Whether too much or too little of a hormone—the body’s chemical messenger—, it has effects on the body ranging from moderate to severe. Some imbalances can be temporary while others can come to stay (chronic or long-term).
The good news is that nowadays, these imbalances can be treated so that patients can live their most optimal life.

Pellet Therapy is ONLY done at the LoneTree location.
About Hormone Optimization
The Biote Method of specialized hormone pellet therapy (or bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, HRT) uses custom-compounded pellets specifically designed to replace the hormones men and women lose over time.
What Is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is a personalized approach to hormone imbalance treatment. It allows a patient’s body to absorb the right level of hormones at the right time using a delivery method the body can process efficiently.
The bioidentical hormones are administered through pellets—small capsules (about the size of a grain of rice) inserted under the skin—containing testosterone or estrogen. A bioidentical hormone is the exact molecular structure of hormones the body produces naturally.
When the hormones enter the bloodstream, they dissolve over several months. Studies show that patients may see the effects of hormone optimization up to four weeks after a pellet insertion. Everyone is unique and some people may feel the effects immediately, while others may take up to two or more pellet insertions before they feel full effects.
Biote bioidentical hormone pellets are natural, as they are derived from soy or the yam plant to create estradiol and/or testosterone molecules. This differentiates them from synthetic hormones, which are made from animal parts or urine and therefore have a different molecular structure than what the body produces.
What People Are Saying
How Does BHRT Work?
Every patient’s symptoms are unique, as a result, each patient’s path to hormone optimization differs. Some patients report some relief in as soon as four weeks, but full hormone optimization may take up to six months. Many report feeling more benefits after the second insertion. The Biote Method of hormone optimization therapy will be customized to balance each patient’s hormones and fit their specific needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Can a Patient Get Started With BHRT?
Patients should schedule an office visit to test their current hormone levels. Based on a comprehensive consultation and extensive lab work provided by Lone Tree OB/GYN & Midwives, our providers will determine candidacy for the Biote Method. Patients will schedule a quick follow-up appointment to review results and, when appropriate, for pellet therapy insertion.
What Blood Tests are Required Before the Insertion?
Biote Certified Providers like the staff at Lone Tree require extensive lab work while considering a patient’s candidacy for BHRT using pellets. You will discuss the results with a provider before moving forward with the bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.
How Long Do Pellets Last?
Pellets last up to three to six months depending on gender, weight, absorption rates, and the amount of deficiency or surplus of hormones present within the patient at the time of insertion. They are reinserted between two to four times per year to help keep hormones optimized and balanced and may take up to two insertions before feeling the full benefits.
Does Insurance Cover Biote Pellets?
No, insurance does not cover the cost of Biote pellets. Biote pellets are the only brand of pellets that our providers use. Our providers and BIOTE have an established and trusted relationship that has resulted a very high success rate when dealing with patients and their hormonal concerns.
What’s the Cost?
If you have insurance, most insurances will cover the cost of the initial visit minus any copay or deductible. As part of the visit, there will be labs drawn to determine hormone levels. Insurance might cover all or some of the lab visit. Once labs and results have been explained, the cost of pellets is $350 for women which lasts between 3-4 months and $700 for men who get them every 6 months. There is no office visit cost, just the pellet cost. Once the pellets are inserted, you will need labs to make sure the pellets are at optimal levels so the providers know you are on the correct dosage and for you to begin feeling amazing again!
