Learn About Prenatal Care
Prenatal care is about the specialized medical services you get while pregnant. During each prenatal visit, your doctor will do a check up on you and your baby, no matter at what pregnancy stage you’re at.
When you take care of both your baby and your own health, the possibilities of carrying a healthy pregnancy and a full-term baby are much higher.
Track Your Next 9 Months
By using our visit table to track your pregnancy journey, you can keep up with your appointments. Normally, you have to see your doctor every 4 weeks during your first trimester, and from your 28-36 weeks gestation your physician has to check on you every 2-3 weeks. And from your 36 weeks to the due date, you have to make weekly visits.
During the visits, the doctor will measure your belly, use the stethoscope to listen to the baby’s heartbeat, make a revision in case you bring in lab work results and answer any doubt that you have.
Your estimated due date is determined using the 40-week gestational period, starting on the first day of your last menstrual period. Depending on your first ultrasound, your due date could be changed or confirmed, although most babies are born between 38 and 42 weeks. After your EDD is defined, your prenatal visits are scheduled according to it and the gestational age.
During the pregnancy, diagnostic tests are performed to keep up with your health and the development of your future child, as well as any additional tests or follow-ups if it’s needed. Your urine, weight and blood pressure are also checked during each visit.
Why Prenatal Care Matters
Spotting health problems at an early pregnancy stage can save you from many worries. Without prenatal care, your baby could be born prematurely or with health problems caused by unhealthy habits during their development in the womb. Having a doctor that monitors your future baby’s development is also a great way to ease your doubts surrounding pregnancy.
During your prenatal visits, you can also get childbirth delivery classes from your doctor. Getting guidance on how to properly deliver your firstborn can be determining for your post-partum health and your baby’s neonatal stage.
